Set up Canon Pixma MG6100 Network Connection – No matter what operating system you are using, the MG6100 must be connected to a USB port and power. After you have done this, turn on the device and boot up your computer.
Your operating system will now try to install the printer automatically, which is often not possible. Therefore, download the original Canon driver or use the one on the included CD and install it.
Especially with Pixma devices, you should use the original driver to also be able to use all functions such as scanning and possibly the integrated fax. Furthermore, you can only use the full color depth when printing with the original driver.
Sharing the MG6100 on the Windows network
If you use a router, which has a USB port, you can connect your printer directly to it, it will then always be available to all computers on the network. Before the printer can be used on the router, however, it must first be enabled via the admin interface. Otherwise connect your MG6100 to a PC and proceed as follows:
Press “Start” or the Windows key and enter “Devices and Printers” in the search field.
A window will open where you should see your Canon Pixma MG6100 after successful installation.
Right-click on this icon and then continue to “Printer Properties”.
Select the “Sharing” tab and check the boxes for “Share printer” and “Perform printer formatting on client computers”, confirm with “OK” and restart your computer.
Now you should install the shared Canon Pixma on other computers in your network.
To do this, switch back to the “Devices and Printers” menu.
Click on “Add Printer”.
Select the second item called “Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer”.
Now you should see your Pixma MG6100 again, click on it and then click on “Next”.
Windows will now install the required driver via the network and the network printer can be used.
